The hummingbird hovers over the Elbe meadows
Within the context of the exhibition “The lines of Nazca” students of the
University of Applied Sciences Dresden, faculty of Surveying and Cartography,
modelled the hummingbird at the meadows near the river Elbe in Dresden.
The reason for the exhibition “The lines of Nazca” is the 100th birthday of Maria Reiche.
In the town hall of Dresden this exhibition was shown until May 28th, 2003.
The modelling began nine o’clock in the morning of the May 14th, 2003 with a bit of rain.
The hummingbird, 96 by 65 meters, was stacked out with a tacheometer and marked with wooden pegs.
Afterwards the students fixed a yellow plastic band (approx. 640 meters long) at the top of
the pegs. They finished their work around half past twelve and the hummingbird floated over
the meadows near the river Elbe.
We want to say thank you to all students of the 6th and 8th semester for their great help and enthusiasm at this project.
